Global Style Duo’s Take on Sydney Fashion Week

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

As the Afterpay Australian Fashion Week has drawn to an end, world-renowned image styling duo Tasha and Carmody Homan unpack their favourite styles seen on Sydney.

Hailing from New York, Tasha is an international model to the likes of Prada, French Connection, Top Shop, Levi's & Alexander McQueen, has also been a backstage Fashion Week presenter, fashion designer and stylist for international fashion magazines and is a personal stylist and certified cryotherapy technician. Tasha’s top picks from the collections presented in Sydney this week are Rebecca Vallance, Beare Park, and Ginger & Smart.

Tasha complemented Rebecca Vallance explaining her collection was what you’d see in the major shows at New York Fashion Week.

“Rebecca Vallance debuted her holiday collection which I absolutely loved and loved her colour pallet. The deep tones with shimmer and shine had a very Balmain influence which is one of my favourite, very sexy designers!

“The boots she chose had in an electric green which was a beautiful contrast of colour. A Tom Ford 90s vibe for sure, together with sexy, simple hair and lined eyes with neutral pout was a very sexy on trend look. I absolutely loved this collection and thought it felt very New York city to me,” explained Tasha.

Tasha’s favourite debut collection was Beare Park, who present a luxurious approach to dressing with decisive simplicity.

“This collection felt very feminine, very New York clean lines stunning Neutral pallet, beautiful textures and lux fabrics that draped nicely whether in menswear style or sexy dresses, it has a feminine kiss to all pieces. Simply chic! Well done, Beare Park,” shared Tasha.

When it comes to Ginger & Smart - designs for spirited women whose distinctive style is an expression of their individuality - Tasha says they “nailed it!”

“I could see any of these gowns and pieces debuting themselves on the Oscars red carpet. The new 2022 resort collection is absolutely stunning the journey of colour. This very cohesive collection is nothing but a breath of fresh air, the corals among the splashes of feminine pastels, the textures and the Silhouette celebrates the feminine body. I absolutely love this collection!” shared Tasha.

Tasha also made special mention of the First Nations fashion show at Carriage Works with the all indigenous designers and models.

“This collection was incredible! The prints, interesting cuts and patterns paid homage to First Nations heritage but also the modern woman, with a contemporary edge as well!

“History has been made and America has a lot to learn from the Aussies this week!” exclaimed Tasha.

Complementing the fashion was a range of hair styles that we asked Carmody Homan to critique. Carmody is the authority on runway ready hair having been a world-wide fashion week hair stylist in New York, London, Miami and Australia. Carmody has also been the face of Redken Style Connection, international styling consultant for Toni & Guy and worked with Wella, Clairol and Ulta Beauty.

What sparked Carmody’s interest was the beautiful editorial hair in Anna Quan’s show.

“The wet clean shapes, pulled back into tight bun like shapes really gave a modern sleek look. I loved the gold jewellery that was added to the hair to accessorize the edgy but elegant look,” explained Carmody.

The hair styles presented with Mariam Seddiq’s collection made Carmody’s top 3 list because of the elegant sleek pony braids.

“The super sleek long low ponytail rope braid gave the simplicity to a high-end fashion collection,” shared Carmody.

Closing out Carmody’s top picks for Fashion Week hair was the glamour beach hair featured in Rumer’s show.

“For this glamour beach look, they’ve done a great job working with the natural hair texture and a curling iron through the mid lengths to give flatness at the roots with modern bend through the mid lengths. This gives an effortless wave,” explained Carmody.
